The Open Water Scuba Instructor rating is the second half of the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC), following Assistant Instructor training. Once certified, you can teach the full range of PADI core courses — from Discover Scuba Diving all the way through Divemaster — plus lead the way into Specialty Instructor ratings.
As your Course Director, I run the IDC as an intensive program covering teaching methodology, risk management, and dive theory in real depth, with a strong focus on how to actually think like an instructor rather than just recite standards. You'll demonstrate confined water and knowledge development presentations before sitting the two-day PADI Instructor Examination (IE) with a PADI Examiner.
PADI's complete system of diver education, classroom and in-water teaching methodology, risk management, and how to run every core PADI course from Discover Scuba Diving to Divemaster.
PADI Divemaster (or equivalent) certification, at least 60 logged dives to begin the IDC (100 to sit the Instructor Exam), Emergency First Response Instructor certification, and medical clearance. Minimum age 18.
